Taking drug as prescribed is crucial for many treatments. However, patients tend to forget or take them not as prescribed. This paper presents a system based on Near Field Communication (NFC) for helping patients taking drug as prescribed. The proposed system includes (1) an NFC tag for each drug, (2) drug database, and (3) the Android application on a smart device with NFC. Assuming that a patient had installed the Android application on his/her device, when a patient buy a drug based on his/her doctor prescription, his/her device will be used to read the ID from the drug?s tag. The correctness of the drug is also checked by the pharmacist. Based on the drug database, the proposed program arranges the schedule to help the patient. Since drug?s prescription is based on meal?s times, the proposed program arranges the warning times based on the patient?s preference of meal times. Responses to all warning are recorded as either ?hit? when the drug is taken or ?miss? when the patients do not respond in time. There are three warnings for each dose of drug. Drug taking for each dose is recorded as a ?hit? if the drug is taken at any of the 3 warnings; otherwise, it will be recorded as a ?miss?. When patient meet his/her doctor in the next schedule, the doctor can read out the drug taking record as valuable information for the treatment. The proposed system is tested with 20 patients to score their satisfaction based on SPSS evaluation method. The results showed the average score of 4.25 out of 5 with maximum and minimum scores of 4.25 and 3.25, respectively. |
