Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ryukyuan classical music is one of traditional art cultures of Okinawa, especially Nomura style is most popular these days. Among 20 types of singing techniques that characterize the Nomura style, we analyze singing voices of“ Kugaki ”and“ Ufugaki ”in this study. The vibration pattern of the vocal folds was measured using an EGG device for three singers. They were all assistant instructor of the Nomura style. The fundamental frequency and open quotient were obtained from measured data when the singers produced Kugaki and Ufugaki techniques. The temporal pattern of the fundamental frequency was compared between these two techniques in terms of the duration and frequency range of the characteristic pitch variation. Result showed that the duration was approxi- mately 300 ms and the frequency range was 50 ∼ 100 Hz for both techniques, but the frequency range for Ufugaki was tended to be grater than that for Kugaki. In addition, we found that the open quotient was about 0.3 ∼ 0.5 for both singing techniques, suggesting that the modal voice register was used for each singer.
