Analysis of color attributes derived from vowel sound impression -- for multimodal expression of sentiment information --

(in English) We have been proposing to specify communicative speech characteristics for synthesis using their perceptual impressions. Looking for further possibilities of describing speech characteristics, we investigated the color characteristics associated with speech impressions. We carried out sentimental experiments to analyze color characteristics selected by subjects after listening vowel sounds with prosodic variations, which represents communicative speech characteristics. In addition, vowel sounds with sound pressure variations were also employed to find another color correlation of saturation. Color selection experiments showed, high correlations between F0 heights and value, between sound pressure and saturation, and the consistent hue selection nicely corresponding vowel articulation. These correlations open up wide possibilities for the description of communicative speech and further applications.
