Design of Quadruple Series-Coupled Quantum Well Microring Wavelength-Selective Switch Based on Chebyshev Filter Condition

(in English) We theoretically investigated design of wavelength-selective switch (WSS) based on semiconductor quadruple series-coupled microring resonators (MRRs), using the Butterworth and Chebyshev filter conditions for improvement of their filter characteristics. In the calculations, propagation and coupling losses were also considered, which have never been considered in the design of high-order series-coupled MRRs. In addition, the Vernier effect was also used in the design to expand free spectral ranges (FSRs) and wavelength shifts of the WSS. It was found that the Chebyshev filter condition is highly useful for both the improvement of filter characteristics, and the expansion of FSR and wavelength shifts even when there are some losses in MRRs.
