The High Reliability Network Equipment utilizing non-Volatile Data

(in English) Event log information stored in communication equipment (CE) is useful for fault analysis. However, a number of event logs which are to be stored in CE and have various importance for the analysis are so massive that, hard disk drives (HDD) in CE may lose some event logs because HDD is not accessed at sufficiently high-speed enough. To this weak point, there is an approach to record event logs on non-volatile memory which is accessed at higher-speed than HDD. However, its price per bit is high and its capacity in CE is limited. Then, we propose a method which records only logs with higher levels of importance on non-volatile memory than an administrator demands, in order to achieve high-density log recording that is suitable for cause analysis of failures. We also suggest an automatic failure evasion technique using recorded event logs. Our method focuses on logs that are recorded just before a failure occurs, and automatically generates an exclusion-definition (i.e. conflicted configuration) based on the recorded logs. We define those logs that may cause equipment to crash as hindrance factors. The proposed method will be able to provide a communication network which has high availability and fault tolerance since it brings stable operation of CE when it recovered from a failure.
