Break arcs are generated in a DC48V and 9A resistive circuit at contact opening speed of 5mm/s. The morphology of the cathode surface and motion of the break arcs are observed simultaneously by two high-speed cameras, while the break arc is maintained. The time evolution of the diameter of eroded region on cathode surface and motion of break arc are measured. Following results are shown. The diameter of eroded region increases with increasing of the number of break operations. The diameter of eroded region is remarkably increased through 1st to 11th break operations. After 11th operation, the diameter of eroded region slightly increases. The diameter of eroded region is mainly increased after 100ms from the arc ignition. When the motion of break arc deviates, the diameter of eroded region remarkably increases. |
