Difference in the shape of horopter for vertical and horizontal gaze directions

(in English) It is known that the shape of empirical horopter surface in the frontal direction is curved horizontally and slanted top away vertically. However, it is not clear whether the shape of horopter in the oblique visual direction is consistent with the geometrical prediction based on the data in the frontal direction or not. In this study, we identified the shapes of empirical horopters based on the measurements of binocular corresponding points in the gaze directions of 30 ° upper, lower, left and right and compared them to those predicted geometrically from the corresponding points in the frontal direction. The result showed that the shape of the empirical horopter in the right and left gaze directions deviated from the locus of empirical horopter calculated from the data at the center, and the deviation is larger in the outer sides of the fixation. For the upper and lower gaze directions, the backward inclination of the horopter increased and decreased as compared to that in the frontal gaze direction, respectively. These results indicated that ex-cyclovergence and in-cyclovergence occurred for upper and lower gaze directions, respectively.
