Development of a Freely Transformable Kanji Assembling Application

(in English) Kanji learning materials by means of assembling their radicals are useful for not only sighted people but also people with low vision. However, radical cards of many conventional materials are hard to see for people with low vision. Moreover, properties of radical cards made of paper are not easily changeable. Thus, we decided to solve these issues by way of ICT: we started developing a Kanji assembling application that works on tablets. The size, color arrangement, and font of the default radical cards of this application are chosen to be easy-to-see for people with low vision. These properties are easily changeable according to the individual needs of people with low vision. Voice output function helps people who are hard of reading characters on the radical cards to use this application.
