[Poster Presentation] Sound image movements of rectilinearly moving sound sources.

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Listeners were traced the sound image movement of a moving sound source in a large spaced gymnasium and a small spaced sound proof room. The moving sound source was a white noise emitted from a small loudspeaker which was moved linearly either in longitudinally, transversely or obliquely either on a frontal, dorsal or lateral plane. In the gymnasium, in which there are few reflections from the walls, floor and ceiling, all the sound image movements coincided with the sound source movements but for the frontal longitudinal sound source movements at 0.5 m distance, where sound image movements were apparently shorter than the sound source movements. In the sound proof room, in which there are large reflections from the walls, floor and ceiling, all the sound image movements did not coincide with the sound source movements at 0.5 m distance. For the longitudinally moved sound sources, sound image movement trajectory bent over parallel to a head vertically above ears in all planes. For the transversely moved sound sources, sound image movement trajectory bent over parallel to a head horizontally in all planes. For the obliquely moved sound sources, sound image movement trajectory bent over parallel to a head obliquely in the frontal and dorsal plane, went straight ahead horizontally on the rear sagittal plane, and went straight ahead vertically on the frontal sagittal plane. In contrast, all the sound image movements coincided with the sound source movements at 1.0 m distance but for the lateral oblique sound source movements. Results suggest that the reflections of the room strongly affect the subjective sound image movement.
