Over 50 series of Li-ion conducting A-site deficient perovskite solid solutions (Li-ADPESSs) were synthesized, and their ionic conductivities were measured. Multiple regression analysis was performed on the observed ionic conductivities with a function of the explanatory variables of the flexibility (FF) of the condensed oxyacid framework determined from the BO4 stretch mode, the bottleneck size (BS), the tolerance factor, and the four variances of the ionic radii and charge numbers of the A- and B-site ions, and the resultant correlation coefficient R was as good as 0.91. The important knowledge obtained from the regression analysis was as follows: 1) Demonstration of the FF - BS theory: the optimal BS depends on the flexibility (i.e., If flexible, the optimal BS is small, and if rigid, large) 2) The explanatory variables are regarded as the dominant factors for the conductivity. This is the first success to determine the dominant factors by multiple regression analysis, and the BS-FF theory will be very useful for development of solid state ionics materials. |
