Evaluation of Frame Transmission Technology for Ultra Low Latency Network

(in English) In network such as in-vehicle, train, industry, reliability, real-time, bandwidth requirement are different from the Internet or the office network. Therefore different network technologies are used in these networks. However the increasing demands for higher bandwidth and economical feasibility, adopting Ethernet to these networks is considered. While network is integrated to Ethernet, traffic with different latency request will be multiplexed and transmitted. This induces a technical problem in transmitting real-time traffic with low latency. To solve this problem, express frame preemption method is discussed. This method is called IET(Interspersing Express Traffic) and is in standardization in IEEE802.3br task force. In this paper we developed a prototype of a switch with IET function and evaluated the latency of express frame by comparing with legacy switch without IET. Consequently we confirmed that maximum latency of express frames could be reduced from 27.6μs to 2.5μs by using IET.
