| (in English) | Although the human lateral occipital cortex，or lateral occipital complex (LOC)，is known to play an important role in object recognition，detailed visual information processes in the LOC are almost completely unknown．In the present study，we recorded visual evoked potentials (VEPs) evoked by simple figures and face pictures from healthy young male participants，in order to find clues for investigation of neural processes for shape analysis in the LOC．Although all visual stimuli presented in this study evoked VEPs at electrodes in the occipital posterior parietal，and posterior lateral regions，composited figures of squares or circles evoked about three-time larger N1 components of VEP at the PO8 electrode than unitary square or circle did．Thus the compositeness of figures could activate neural processes for shape analysis in the LOC． | |
