Voltage-sensitive dye imaging of the cortico-cortical signaling between cerebral hemispheres in mice in vivo

(in English) Inter-hemispheric neural connections across the corpus callosum are of essential importance in integrating the information from bilateral sensory organs. Although previous anatomical studies have revealed the detailed wiring between the hemispheres, spatio-temporal properties of the neural signaling through those connections have been less understood. In this study, therefore, we applied intra-cortical micro-stimulation to the primary visual cortex as well as somatosensory barrel cortex of a hemisphere in mice in vivo, and measured the neural responses in both hemispheres with the voltage-sensitive dye imaging technique. And we made analyses on the spatial propagation and temporal property of the transcallosal signaling.
