Tomoki Koyama, Takeshi Saitoh (Kyutech) MBE2014-115
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The aim of our research is a development of the sign language recognition system for smooth communication between hearing disability person and hearing person. Sign language is consisted of three elements; hand position, hand movement, and hand shape. The proposed method is reflected all elements. Specifically, as for the hand shape, this paper investigates four kinds of features of PCA-based feature, geometrical features, DCT-based features and LBP-based feature. Multi-stream HMM is used for the learning and recognition processes. We set 100 words as the recognition target, gathered sign scenes with six persons, and evaluated the proposed method. As a result, all three elements of hand position, hand movement, and LBP-based hand shape are efficient for the sign language recognition.
