As the intra-datacenter and inter-datacenter traffic increases, the increasing power consumption of datacenter-related network devices has become a problem. To reduce the power consumption of intra-datacenter networks, introducing short-range optical routing technologies into intra-datacenter networks is coming under the spotlight. As one of the op-tical routing technologies applicable to intra-datacenter networks, there is the broadband and energy-efficient network architecture using an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) router, i.e., AWG-STAR. For access networks, we have the pow-er saving scheme of wavelength division multiplexing/time division multiplexing-passive optical networks (WDM/TDM-PONs), i.e., adaptive link rate (ALR). However, its application to intra-datacenter networks has not been studied. This paper proposes a multicast-capable AWG router and a power saving scheme of AWG-STAR network sys-tems using the proposed AWG router. In addition, the power-saving and latency performance are evaluated by simula-tions using the AWG-STAR network with five nodes. |
