Embedding Method by using Wet Paper Code with FIST Method

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We propose an embedding method by using wet paper code (WPC) with FIST
method.
The watermark is embedded into DWT coefficients by the WPC.
The WPC has the advantage such that no one needs to know
embedded positions during decoding.
This advantage prevents attackers from detecting these positions.
However, in encoding, the WPC needs to solve system of equations
in which number of unknown variables is more than number of equations.
In order to use existing methods using Gaussian elimination,
the number of variables must be reduced to less than the
number of equations by the selection rule.
Once the selection rule is disclosed, this advantage of the WPC
could be lost.
We, therefore, introduce sparse estimation for the WPC.
The sparse estimation can solve the system of equations without the
selection rule.
The FIST method is one of sparse estimation methods.
The FIST method can find sparse solution quickly.
Digital watermarking methods are required robustness for JPEG
compression and cropping.
In our method, the watermarks are embedded into LH subband
coefficients of 3 level DWT domain against JPEG compression.
Against cropping, original image is divided into blocks and then
both the watermarks and the synchronization code are embedded
into the one block.
As a result, after JPEG compression and cropping, proposed method can
achieved low bit error rate in estimation of the watermarks.
