Monitoring of river water quality by ultrasound -- speed of sound and attenuation measurement in Yasu River --

(in English) Pollution substance contained in agricultural waste water from rivers greatly decreases quality of water in closed water areas such as lakes. Therefore, continuous monitoring of river water has been required. In this study, we tried to develop ultrasonic monitoring of water quality of rivers. The water quality was inspected by speed and attenuation of sound. As the first step, we observed the movement of suspensions in a laboratory flow path by waveform changes. We investigated the relationship between suspension concentration and the distortion of the sound waveform. In addition, we investigated the relationship between water quality and waveform changes at Yasu River which is the biggest river flowing to Lake Biwa.
