(in English) An elicitaion study was conducted for investigating the relationship between young children’s use of past and nonpast tensed verbs in Japanese and the frequency distribution of these forms in input language. The constructivist assumption that defaulting errors can be observed in both directions beween the two tense forms depending on the verb was not entirely supported although there was a statistically significant relationship between children’s response and the relative frequency of past and nonpast forms in the input.
