It is reported that a differential modal gain (DMG) and pumping-mode dependence of DMGs are suppressed by introducing ring-type index profile to a few-mode erbium doped fiber (FM-EDF). Simulation results indicate that suppression of DMG and suppression of pumping-mode dependence of DMGs are realized to optimize the ratio between outer diameter and inner diameter and the refractive index of center region. The amplification characteristics of a fabricated two-mode EDF with ring-type index profile based on the simulation demonstrate that DMG and pumping-mode dependence of DMGs are suppressed as simulated. |
