Recently, with the spread of portable devices such as notepads, compact devices are required in embedded applications. The information in small devices is protected by incorporating an encryption circuit. However the size of the encryption circuit affects the miniaturization of the device greatly. Therefore lightweight encryption has been attracted as an encryption technology suitable for small devices. However, it has not been sufficiently studied tamper-resistance of lightweight encryption against side-channel attacks, especially fault analysis which is one of the most dreadful side-channel attacks. To ensure safety of the small devices with lightweight encryption, it is important to examine the tamper-resistance. This paper proposes a new fault analysis for PRESENT which is a lightweight standard encryption. The proposed method is based on statistical processing. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. |
