Sound source with variable focus using time reversal

(in English) Sound focusing is important in medicine and non destructive testing. For this purpose, acoustic lenses and beam forming by array transducers have been developed. In addition, time reversal acoustic focusing has been proposed. However, the time reversal acoustic focusing needs multiple sound sources, whose phases have to be controlled. In addition, the applicable focal area has not been considered. In this study, we experimentally attempt the realization of time reversal acoustic focusing using one element transducer within a cavity with a hall, and discus the applicable focusing area of that. Results indicate that sounds are focused at a focal point on a plate outside the cavity, and that it is possible to control the focal point in several centimeters on the plate.
