In this paper, we propose an interactive and semi-automated organ segmentation method for 3D medical images. First, fragments of organ boundary are drawn on arbitrary section images displayed in a touch panel device. Second, true boundary points and their normal are automatically estimated based on image features, and then interactive elimination of points of estimation error is performed. Finally, by using the boundary point coordinates and normal, the target shape is reconstructed as a volumetric image based on radial basis functions. In this study, we examined the method by using 5 CT datasets for liver segmentation, and obtained an average correspondence rate of 81.85% with gold standard volume obtained by manual input. |
