A Study on Management of ContentID/Cache Location based on Estimation of Content Popularity for In-network Guidance

(in English) Circulation of large-size contents like high-definition video leads to increasing content server load and core network traffic. Content oriented network (CON), which is expected to realize efficient content distribution, is vigorously studied as a future Internet. A Mapping Server with Cache-location Resolution (MSCR) has been proposed, which provides functions to resolve content ID and not only content sever location but also prospective cache locations in order to effectively utilize in-network caches by guiding content requests to content cache locations. Its performance is, however, evaluated only under assumption that content popularity is time-invariant. In this paper, we verify the effectiveness of MSCR under more realistic assumption where content popularity is time-variant. VPCL (Variable Prospective Cache Location) is also proposed, which varies the number of stored cache locations for each content according to its estimated popularity, so that ineffective query guidance is reduced. Simulation results show that MSCR is effective even in the case of time-variant content popularity and VPCL reduces unexpected query guidance.
