Fundamental Study on Structure and Adaptive Control of Time-Frequency 2D AGC Using Analogue Transversal Filter

(in English) Software defined radio (SDR) receivers A/D convert the multiple waves in the whole receivable band, and it can select and demodulate the desired received signal with digital signal processing such as digital filters.
However, quantization bits of faster A/D converters are usually about 10bits, and sufficient dynamic range as a receiver can’t be obtained.
Using AGC like a conventional receiver, the gain is controlled so as to make the envelop constant for the strongest received signal among the multiple waves, so it operates as AGC for the strongest received signal.
Therefore, when received waves have a large difference in signal level, SNR of the weaker waves is degraded, there is a problem that it can’t successfully demodulated.
We proposed Time-Frequency 2D AGC using an analog transversal filter to solve the above mentioned problem.
The filter operates as an adaptive filter, and it is controled so that the output signal level is approximately constant or a certain range.
After A/D converting the filter output, it controls adaptively the tap weights with discrete fourier transform such as FFT by digital signal processing.
In this report, we performed computer simulation using tap coefficient update algorithm that we reported, and we confirmed that the dynamic range is successfully reduced.
It shows that the system operates well as AGC.
