Joint Tx/Rx Filtering for Distributed Antenna Network Uplink with Single-Carrier MU-MIMO

(in English) The combination of distributed antenna network (DAN), where a number of antennas are spatially distributed within wireless cells (macro cells), and multi-user (MU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) can achieve high system throughput. Recently, we proposed a minimum mean square error based joint transmit and receive linear filtering (joint Tx/Rx MMSE filtering) for uplink transmissions with single-carrier (SC)-MU-MIMO. Joint Tx/Rx MMSE filtering transforms the MIMO channel between each user equipment (UE) and base station (BS) to multiple eigenmodes, and applies MMSE based power allocation. MMSE power allocation achieves good bit error rate (BER) performance by allocating much power to the eigenmodes which have low channel gains (i.e. eigenvalues). However, in DAN, there is a large gap among eigenvalues since the average received power between each UE and DA is different from each other. Therefore, power allocation should be designed in terms of throughput (i.e. Shannon’s channel capacity). This paper proposes a new joint Tx/Rx filtering (joint Tx/Rx WF-MMSE filtering) which applies water-filling (WF) power allocation in eigenmode-domain and MMSE power allocation in frequency-domain for DAN uplink with SC-MU-MIMO. Numerical results show that proposed joint Tx/Rx WF-MMSE filtering achieves better throughput performance of DAN uplink with SC-MU-MIMO than conventional joint Tx/Rx MMSE filtering.
