A Novel Spectrum Occupancy Rate Measurement Technique Based on Received Signal Power CDF Using Least Squares Method for Noise Power Estimation

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The authors have proposed a spectrum occupancy rate measurement technique using CDF (Cumulative Probability Distribution Function) of received signal power as a threshold in order to quantitatively evaluate the temporal and spatial usage of frequency resources. However, the conventional technique has a drawback, i.e. measurement performance is significantly degraded in low received SNR conditions. To improve the measurement performance of the conventional technique in low SNR conditions, this report proposes a novel spectrum occupancy rate measurement technique based on received signal power CDF using least squares method for noise power estimation. Computer simulations and experiments have been conducted to evaluate the measurement performance of the proposed new technique according to various, parameters such as received signal SNR, packet length, and measured number of samples, as well as parameters related to the measurement technique such as noise power estimation section. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed new technique improves measurement accuracy in low SNR conditions.
