Development of Microwave Power Receiving Device for Driving DC Motor with Dynamic Resistance Characteristic

(in English) Input load characteristics of DC motor fluctuate as the input power is changed. Also the conversion efficiency of a RF-DC rectifier circuit is strictly affected by the output load. To drive a DC motor by microwave power transfer (MPT), we have to improve the efficiency-load characteristics of rectifying circuit. This study proposes a power-receiving device consisted of a rectenna array and a special buck-boost converter with constant input load characteristics. We design four different power-receiving devices combined by two different rectennas and two different buck-boost converters. We conduct experiments on driving a low-power DC motor by MPT using the power-receiving device. We successfully drive the DC motor at the maximum efficiency point of the rectifying circuit despite different power levels. The measured overall efficiency from receiving antenna array to the input of DC motor is over 70%.
