The demonstration of phase synchronization during paired walking

(in English) When walking alongside someone, you may find that your legs move in synchrony with theirs. Is this phenomenon a coincidence or consequence? In the current experiment, pairs of participants walked along a paved, flat, and straight path either alone or alongside another participant, in the midst of a pleasant environment consisting lined trees. We demonstrated that the characteristic pattern of footsteps during paired walking in a natural situation provides a good fit with a physical model of coupled oscillators, indicating the emergence of an entrainment. The role of entrainment during paired walking is discussed in terms of interpersonal nonverbal communication.
