Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Gaze-following behaviors play an important role in language development. The present study focused on two gaze-following abilities, namely following the gaze direction of others and processing a cued object, to investigate how these two abilities influence language development in a longitudinal approach. Participants were given Gaze-following and Object-processing test at 9 months, and their vocabulary size was then assessed through the McArthur CDI at 18 months. Results showed that both gaze-following and object-processing abilities predicted subsequent vocabulary size. Additional analyses by categorizing the vocabulary components found that the related vocabulary components were different between gaze-following and object-processing performance.
