This paper discusses tiny communications in a campus net, in which small-cells are densely laid. The radius of those cells is about 10m, and they use beamforming millimeter radio. The main target of the campus net is an integration of telephone and computer net with cellular network. Dense small-cells allow ubiquitous tiny communications by low power simple terminals like sensor nodes in the campus area. Supposing use of 3GLTE protocol, small-cells need no synchronization process before communications even after long sleep since the turn around delay between the base station and any terminals in a cell is far smaller than CP (Cyclic Prefix) for the symbol terms. For upward communications, slotted alpha access means are given to tiny communications. The slot means radio resource in PDSCH which is defined by an ID (RNTI in 3GLTE protocol) given to a group not to terminals. Any terminal can put data to a slot at its will. The network can be very flexible since appearing frequency and size of slots can be modified depending on traffic. In base stations, bit-based processing to each frame is executed with no regard to specific terminal. Typical one is ACK processing for success of data transfer. In addition to the LTE functions, TCE (Tiny Communication Entity) is provided, where processing is done with regard to specific terminal. For down ward communications, data are once stored in TCE, and terminals try to read them, since terminals of those tiny communications are usually in power off. Terminals can restart communications at any cell when they move to other cell, though handover is not included since terminal dependent processing is not conducted in eNodeB. |
