Development of Sublingual Vein Measurement for Assisting Tongue Diagnosis

(in English) Tongue diagnosis is one of the diagnosis methods of Japanese traditional herbal medicine, Kampo medicine. Sublingual vein is one of the observation items of tongue diagnosis. It is a vein which runs on each side of the lingual frenulum. Increase of the sublingual vein’s breadth indicates bad blood circulation. However, tongue diagnosis is qualitative, and the diagnosis depend on subjective view and experience of doctors. In this study, we segmented sublingual veins and measured the breadth of them using color sublingual image and near-infrared sublingual image. The effectiveness of the proposed method was suggested from the result of accuracy experiments.
