This paper presents a new slide-based authoring tool for creating multimedia learning content on the Web-based e-Learning System (WebELS) platform in addition to the existing video-based authoring tool. The video-based authoring tool implements key-marking technique for synchronizing slide presentation and pre-recorded video content taken from a lecture using that same slide presentation. The existing tool is easy to use and has been proven useful by university instructors and students in their online education. However, this tool lacks one very important phase in the learning content life-cycle, i.e., updating the learning content to adapt to the current context of learners as the same courses are delivered year by year. To address this problem, we propose a slide-based authoring tool with functions such as synchronization of slide presentation with the live video stream including cursor movement, inserting new multimedia object (image, pdf, document, audio/video), and slide re-ordering. Moreover, the created learning content using the slide-based authoring tool use the same learning object metadata, thus it can be viewed on the existing viewer tool. |
