When learning programming, it is important to learn not only how to create source code, but also how to read it. Previous studies have supported stepwise top-down refinement of code to meet programming goals. We consider such a stepwise approach also important when learning to read source code. Here, we define “stepwise abstraction” as step-by-step consideration when learning to read source code, and develop and evaluate a learning support system that incorporates stepwise abstraction. Evaluation results suggest that the developed system can support learning to read source code. |
