(in English) Color-less optical network units that work at an arbitrary wavelength are anticipated in WDM-PON systems. Downstream re-modulation schemes using gain saturation of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) have been demonstrated so far, though available bit rates are limited below several gigabit per second due to slow carrier life time of SOAs. The authors have proposed a downstream re-modulation scheme using an SOA assisted by a Fabry-Perot ethalon that cuts off high frequency components of modulation sidebands. In this paper, we discuss experimental results on the proposed scheme using 10 Gbps signals, and demonstrate suppression of the downstream signal by 3.7 dB for the initial extinction ratio of 5 dB. We also report results of bit-error-rate measurement of the downstream and upstream signals, the latter which is generated by modulating the data suppressed downstream signal. The larger is the extinction ratio of the downstream signal, the smaller the amount of data suppression becomes, resulting in the larger penalty in the upstream signal.
