Optical switch based on silicon photonics technology which enables small size and high scalability is attractive for the next generation optical network, however, realization of low loss optical coupling between optical fiber and silicon optical waveguide was a large issue for practical use. Compact and low-loss silicon optical switch modules with newly designed spot size converter on a silicon chip were developed. We confirmed that a transponder aggregator subsystem using the switch modules had good performances for CDC-ROADM in optical networks. |
