We propose a new cost functions for our previously reported adaptive transmission power control method based on soft fractional frequency reuse (SFR) for cellular downlink using orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). Our previously reported method is a decentralized approach, in which a complicated inter-base station cooperation is not required, and adaptively controls the transmission power density at the protected and non-protected bands of SFR dependent on the user distribution within a cell, aiming at the maximization of the geometric mean of the user throughput (in other words, log sum of user throughput), thus, proportional fair (PF) criteria. While our previously reported method controls the transmission power density at the protected and non-protected bands with cost function proportional to transmission power to suppress unnecessary inter-cell interference, the proposed new cost function is based on the approximated cell-edge user throughput of neighbor cells. From the computer simulation results, we show that the proposed method reduces the variance of the user throughput within a system coverage, which means the improvement of user fairness, compared to the previously reported method, while the geometric mean of the user throughput is almost identical among two methods. |
