Faster-than-Nyquist Signaling Using Non-uniform Resource Element Compression for OFDM/OQAM

(in English) This paper proposes Faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling using non-uniform resource element (RE) compression for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)/offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM). In the proposed FTN signaling, the RE compression factor lower than the averaged one in the assigned resource blocks (RBs), i.e., transmission bandwidth is used for the central subcarrier region, and the RE compression factor is increased according as the subcarrier position approaches the edge in the assigned RBs. By using the RE compression factor close to 1 or no compression, i.e., orthogonal multiplexing for the edge of the assigned RBs, the inter-subcarrier interference (ICI) out of the assigned RBs is suppressed to an almost slight level. Link-level simulation results show that the FTN signaling with the non-uniform RE compression achieves the almost same average block error rate performance level as that for the FTN signaling with the uniform RE compression, while keeping the same improvement in the frequency efficiency compared to OFDM scheme.
