[Invited Talk] Proposal on Functional-Split Scheme of Base Stations for Future Radio Access

(in English) In order to realize cost-effective and flexible deployment of base stations, LTE mobile systems employ the centralized/cloud radio access network (C-RAN) architecture where the baseband units (BBUs) are centralized while the remote radio heads (RRHs) are distributed. However, it requires quite a large bandwidth in the mobile fronthaul which is the optical links between BBU and RRH, and its reduction is essential. In this report, we propose a new RAN architecture to realize both optical bandwidth reduction in the mobile fronthaul and wireless CoMP performance comparable to conventional C-RAN, and evaluate them though simulations.
