Transference of personal space into objects

(in English) People feel uncomfortable when someone else comes spatially near (personal space: PS). Although many social psychologists have explored characteristics of PS of/between/among individuals as far, there is currently no empirical research on whether one's belongings (or objects) have PS in the same fashion as that of individuals. This study measured the distance between bags, which the participant and confederate left behind, and thus revealed that the distance between bags was manipulated by the interpersonal relationship between their owners. The present study is the first to demonstrate the transference of PS into objects in consistency with PS of individuals.
