[Invited Talk] Medical Image Analysis and its Application to Computer Assisted Surgery

(in English) Medical images are multidimensional data representing distributions of anatomical structures, tissue characteristics, physiological activities, and so on of the internal human body. Their resolution, quantitative characteristics, and varieties are rapidly improving. This talk will overview mainly the research achievements on medical image analysis and its applications to computer assisted surgery conducted by the groups in which this speaker has participated so far, including patient anatomy and pathology modeling from medical images, optimal surgical planning, and mapping the anatomy and surgical plans to the actual patients during the surgery for the purpose of accurate and safe surgery. Finally, future problems will be discussed, which should be addressed in a wider research field of information and communication technologies (ICT).
