Microbubbles (MBs), which specifically absorb to the target molecular, has been applied as the ultrasonic molecular imaging. Although it is important to understand the sensitivity of bubbles to the target molecules, the evaluation of the sensitivity is difficult in in-vivo experiment. We suggested the experimental system for evaluating the sensitivity of MBs using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), and confirmed that resonance characteristics of QCM changes due to the specific adsorption of MBs. In this paper, we propose the physical model for calculating the number density and size of MBs on QCM surface based on the analysis of the change of motional impedance. We discuss whether the number density and size distribution of adsorbed bubbles could be estimated using our model-based analysis under the assumption that particle size distribution is known. |
