A Study on Transmit Power Control for Uplink Single Carrier Non-orthogonal Multiple Access

(in English) This paper investigates a strategy of transmit power control (TPC) for uplink single carrier non-orthogonal multiple access (SC-NOMA). SC-NOMA can boost system capacity with the assistance of non-orthogonally multiplexing users’ signals. As a result, SC-NOMA is capable of increasing the cell throughput by non-orthogonally multiplexing more users’ signals. On the other hand, a user, who is transmit point in uplink transmission, adopts TPC. Uplink TPC restricts the maximum transmit power for a user less than the maximum transmit power for an evolved Node B (eNB) in downlink transmission. Moreover, it increases transmit power commensurate with used bandwidth for data transmission in order to keep power spectrum density. Since a power-limited UE which reaches the maximum transmit power cannot expand the used bandwidth, the gain of the SC-NOMA may not be obtained. Focusing on channel capacity commensurate with bandwidth, this paper studies a TPC method for the SC-NOMA which can dynamically set power spectrum density. Consequently, the TPC method can expand the used bandwidth for each user. Computer simulations show that SC-NOMA can obtain high cell throughput even under the condition where many power-limited UEs exist.
