Fragmentation-aware Write Optimization for Flash SSDs

(in English) Flash SSDs are becoming available to the purpose of storing stream data from many devices with an increase in capacity and a decrease in price. These streams are frequently fragmented by other ones in SSDs. However,
it is difficult to mitigate these fragmentations by employing prior hot/cold data separation schemes that depend on access locality. In this paper, we propose Cold Data Defragmentation scheme that focuses on fragmentations caused by cold data. This scheme dissolves fragmentations of cold data by rewriting them for the purpose of avoiding relocation of fragmented data in SSDs. Evaluation result shows that our scheme reduces write data to NAND Flash in SSDs up to 58 % by rewriting fragmented cold data.
