DOA Estimation for Wideband Signals by Using Weighted Squared-TOPS

(in English) Recently, direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for wideband incoming waves has been received attention with the progress of Radio Frequency (RF) systems using wideband signals such as wireless communication and radar, etc. To improve degree-of-freedom (DOF) and accuracy of DOA estimation, many researches on wideband DOA estimation technique have also been proposed over several decades. Conventional wideband DOA estimators are based on the method to decompose the wideband signals into some narrowband signals using filter banks or a discrete Fourier transform. They are categorized incoherent signal subspace method (ISSM) and coherent signal subspace method (CSSM). The performance of DOA estimation using ISSM deteriorates at low signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) and the CSSM can improve the accuracy of DOA estimation at low SNR, however it requires an initial DOA and the initial value greatly influences the accuracy. In recent year, the new DOA estimation method named Test of Orthogonality of Projected Subspaces (TOPS) has been proposed, which does not require initial value and provide better performance of DOA estimation at low SNR. In this report, we propose a new wideband DOA estimation method based on Squared-TOPS, which is the improvement method of TOPS. We also demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method via simulations.
