| (in English) | In optical telecommunication systems, planar lightwave circuit (PLC) devices are used widely. Demands for large capacity and low cost optical communication network are on the rise. To satisfy these requirements, downsizing, cost reduction, and high-density integration are required for the PLC devices. To realize these features, various waveguide devices such as a Si wire waveguide and an InP waveguide have been reported. However, high propagation loss, polarization dependence, and coupling loss to optical fibers become problem for these waveguides to use practical applications. Downsizing of the PLC have been investigated. Refractive index difference (Δ) of the PLC was raised drastically by using ZrO2 as a dopant of the core, and downsizing and high-density integration were realized by the ZrO2-SiO2 PLC. In this paper, we report the optical properties and applications of the ZrO2-SiO2 PLC. |
