Evaluation of Influence on Throughput and Transmission Delay by HARQ Retransmission for Bidirectional Digital FPU System

(in English) File-based video system has become widespread in the television-program production field. The authors are developing a bidirectional digital FPU (Field Pick-up Unit) system suitable for wireless video file transmission and have developed the HARQ (Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest) function which enables high-reliable file transmission. It is necessary to determine the new link adaptation thresholds for the reception quality in the system combining link adaptation and HARQ. In this report, we estimate the MAC throughput defined by the amount of successfully transmitted HARQ units and propose the link adaptation thresholds setting method according to the reception quality with the maximum MAC throughput in each modulation level. From the result of the TCP throughput and IP packet transfer delay evaluation for the system combining link adaptation and HARQ, it is confirmed that determining the link adaptation thresholds with our setting method achieves the maximum TCP throughput and prevents IP packet transfer delay increasing.
