Improving bufferbloat problem of TCP communication by MAC retransmission limitation at IEEE 802.11n access point

(in English) TCP communication over IEEE 802.11n wireless access point, the round trip time (RTT) increases when the data rate is low, which is called the Bufferbloat problem. As method to resolve this problem, there are several approaches such as an active queue management approach and the reduction of retransmission limit in low data rate, which we proposed. However, all of them need to be implemented in the data sender side. So, for the upload data transfer form stations to access point, the conventional approaches require themselves to be installed in all stations. In this paper, we propose a new approach which is implemented in the receiving side access point and can resolve the Bufferbloat problem which the sender side stations suffer from. Our approach is based on our former proposal which reduces the MAC level retransmission limit when the data rate is low for transmitting TCP segments. This limitation causes some frame losses, which in turn causes the reduction of TCP congestion windows and at last reduces the buffering in MAC device drivers. This paper describes the proposed method and .the performance evaluation through actual experiments.
