Receiver Window Control for Guaranteeing TCP Throughput in Access Point over WLAN

(in English) The number of applications using video streaming technology in the wireless LAN (WLAN) environment has been increasing. These applications increase to use bidirectional communications. Then, an uplink flow from the terminals to an access point (AP) also increases. Also, these streaming applications require a certain bandwidth(throughput). Therefore, several throughput guarantee methods based on TCP congestion control(QoS-TCP) and QoS control method based on media access control (MAC) QoS-MAC have been proposed for the WLAN. However, QoS-TCP must modify the implementation of TCP and existing QoS-MAC has a problem of the control overhead. In addition, in order to avoid the overhead in the MAC layer, a receiver window control at an AP has been proposed. Since the receiver window control is based on an assumption of using QoS-TCP simultaneously, if it is difficult to modify TCP in the sender terminal, the sufficient performance cannot be obtained. Thus, this paper proposes a modified receiver window control at AP without modification of the sender terminal. As a result of simulation experiments, we found that the proposed method can secure more required throughput than the existing method when the sender does not modify TCP control.
