Evaluation of Active Appearance Models using AutoEncoder

(in English) Active Appearance Models (AAM) is a synthetic model of facial images, which reduces dimension of feature space constructed from facial shape and facial texture information. AAM uses principal component analysis (PCA) for dimension compression. However, because PCA is based on linear calculation, the synthesized facial images using AAM is restricted by the limitation of expressive power. Synthesis performance may be improved by introducing a non-linear calculation. In this study, we propose an AAM using AutoEncoder that is a kind of Deep Neural Network in which non-linear calculation is carried out. We compare facial image synthesis performance of the AAM using PCA with that using AutoEncoder.
