In recent years, interest in the analysis of endogenous gas has increased as it is one of the least invasive methods for clinical diagnosis, disease state monitoring, and environmental exposure assessment. Various exclusive gas analyzers have been developed and studies conducted. During exhalation, endogenous compounds reflecting internal bodily conditions diffuse from the lungs into the breath, which has over 400 other ingredients. Furthermore, it is a major issue in endogenous gas analysis, because the sampling methodology can greatly affect the results. A miniaturized sensor based on photoacoustic spectroscopy was developed for use in diagnostic endoscopy to analyze intragastric compounds. An external laser and a PA cell with a volume of only 61 mm3 were used to monitor gas samples contained in a special sample reservoir. The response of the sensor to the CO2 flow is discussed. From the results, it appears that the photoacoustic technique is suitable for analysis of intragastric compounds. |
